In the Gothic era, the chest became widespread and was often used as a table. As a result of the necessary movability, most tables were simple trestle tables, although small round tables made from joinery reappeared during the 15th century and onward. In western Europe, the invasions and internecine wars caused most of the knowledge inherited from the classical era to be lost. A combination of a small round table and a lectern seemed very popular as a writing table. Tables for eating were large and often round or semicircular. In the Eastern Roman Empire, tables were made of metal or wood, usually with four feet and frequently linked by x-shaped stretchers. įurniture during the Middle Ages is not as well known as that of earlier or later periods, and most sources show the types used by the nobility. Plutarch mentions use of "tables" by Persians. The Romans also introduced a large, semicircular table to Italy, the mensa lunata. Later, the larger rectangular tables were made of separate platforms and pillars. Tables were made of marble or wood and metal (typically bronze or silver alloys), sometimes with richly ornate legs. The Greeks invented a piece of furniture very similar to the guéridon. The Greeks and Romans made more frequent use of tables, notably for eating, although Greek tables were pushed under a bed after use. The Chinese also created very early tables in order to pursue the arts of writing and painting, as did people in Mesopotamia, where various metals were used. The Egyptians made use of various small tables and elevated playing boards. Food and drinks were usually put on large plates deposed on a pedestal for eating. They were often little more than stone platforms used to keep objects off the floor, though a few examples of wooden tables have been found in tombs. Some very early tables were made and used by the Ancient Egyptians around 2500 BC, using wood and alabaster. Most notably, Walt Disney World has revealed details about Candlelight Processional, including the full celebrity narrator lineup that’ll include newcomers Gloria Estefan, Josh Gad, Mariska Hargitay, and Raúl Esparza, to name a few. This includes the return of the Holiday Storytellers, “JOYFUL! A Celebration of the Season” performances, the new Nochebuena Cocina Holiday Kitchen, the Holiday Cookie Stroll, and more. Unfortunately, what all these “fans” forget is that this is concept art. It may or may not be what will actually be the final product. The structure did not match the concept art Disney initially released. Perched atop an unfinished support, Disney fans and bloggers lost their minds. Some Disney fans were extremely upset when the construction of the Nova Corps Starblaster ship, located at the entrance of the attraction, began to take shape. However, a recently deleted tweet from Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Geoff Morell stated it would be opening Memorial Day weekend. This first-of-its-kind rollercoaster (for Disney) with a reverse launch and 360-degree rotating vehicles is officially set to open this summer. Work continues at a rapid pace to complete EPCOT’s newest attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The impact of climate change is being felt in the Antarctic. So it might not go anywhere particularly dramatic for a while." "A lot of the time, they'll float off a little bit, and then they'll actually kind of run aground on a bit of shallow sea floor and they can get stuck there for years. "We don't quite know where this one will go," Dr Cook said. Earlier this year, a large iceberg was closely monitored as it tracked towards, and eventually bypassed, South Georgia - an island in the South Atlantic Ocean, 1,300km south east of the Falkland Islands. The service provides valuable data for the fishing and shipping industries that operate in the Southern Ocean. It is large enough that it will be tracked and monitored by the United States National Ice Centre. Though icebergs often calve off, a portion of that ice is replaced by snowfall. The new iceberg is now called A74. “You can think of the shelf like a bank account,” she says. Poinar notes that one iceberg doesn't necessarily indicate how stable an ice shelf is. As climate change continues to warm temperatures at the poles, scientists are increasingly concerned that Antarctica is melting. The Larsen C ice shelf is just one of many climate scientists are monitoring. As more ice calves from Larsen C, it makes the ice shelf less stable, and scientists fear this could cause another collapse like those seen with Larsen A and B. The trillion-ton chunk was one of the largest ever recorded. In 2017, an iceberg the size of Delaware broke off from Larsen C. Larsen A collapsed in 1995, and Larsen B collapsed in 2002. “In Greenland, you would not find these rectangular bergs so much because it is warmer, icebergs break into smaller pieces and the glaciers are smaller as well.” Melting AntarcticaĪn ice shelf is a large, floating chunk of ice attached to a nearby land mass, and Larsen C is just the latest on the frontline. “The 'bergs detaching from Larsen C are so big, they look perfectly rectangular or with linear features because they were created from rifts that run across the ice shelf for hundreds of kilometers straight,” he notes. Read about how the rules of life are being ripped apart.)Įric Rignot, a research scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab and a professor at UC Irvine, agrees that Larsen C's massive size created the rectangular shape. As it calved, the iceberg may have been smooth and flat underneath, but ocean currents would have quickly changed it. Typically, only 10 percent of an iceberg is visible above the water. The ice has time to spread out and become perfectly flat,” Poinar adds, so when an iceberg breaks off from a large ice shelf along an existing fissure, it looks like a large, flat rectangle. “ look like these beautiful pristine white things from a distance, but if you look a little closer, they're really mangled and full of cracks,” she says. Tabular icebergs are more common than people realize. Ice shelfs are full of fractures and fissures, explains geophysicist Kristin Poinar from the University at Buffalo. “If you total the tons of ice, it would fill every swimming pool in California several times over,” he says, noting that it's only a small piece compared to the ice floating around Antarctica. Senior research scientist Ted Scambos with the University of Colorado at Boulder says the iceberg is in the ballpark of 130 feet tall and anywhere from a mile or two long. “The iceberg's sharp angles and flat surface indicate that it probably recently calved from the ice shelf,” NASA tweeted, referring to the Larsen C ice shelf. Operation IceBridge is a research initiative created to better understand how the poles influence Earth's climate, and it uses a fleet of research planes to regularly collect information. NASA's IceBridge aircraft spotted the iceberg during a routine aerial survey. The iceberg sits like a giant floating sheet cake near the east coast of the Antarctic peninsula. It's an iceberg, shared online by NASA last Wednesday, that appears to be in the shape of a perfect rectangle with smooth, even walls, and 90-degree angles. In a world besieged by climate change-induced chaos and disruption, one satisfying image of order has emerged. It is a component of Electron for cross-platform applications. Node is a JavaScript-based framework that scales well and helps solve many of the problems of modern development. Scalability, portability, extensibility, flexibility, future-proofing, and ease of use all need to be factored in. There are many roles it can handle, such as scaling and load distribution, database and storage handling, and testing. The backend includes your data layer and the parts of your application that the user doesn’t see. You’ll need developers who know the relevant languages, such as PHP for WordPress. They tend to push you to work a certain way, and if that aligns with what you want to do, then great. These sites are perfect if you want to get up and running quickly. You’re bound by their limitations to an extent, without the flexibility of more dynamic solutions. Such platforms are usually expandable and customizable via plugins and extensions, but they’re not always capable of performing actions they weren’t designed for. Typical options include WordPress for information-based sites and Salesforce for online stores, but there are others. For smaller teams, they are often a better choice. Though the trend is toward microservice architectures, using a monolithic platform can give you a leg up when you’re getting started. Microservices suit larger teams that benefit from a modular approach and have the manpower and skills to handle the complexity they introduce. This setup can, however, take a lot of work to keep all services working together properly. Microservice-based architectures are in vogue and let you keep your customer-facing code independent. You still have to decide whether to make the frontend cross-platform, but the decision is less critical as the frontend doesn’t do as much. API-driven applicationsĪnother alternative is to build an API and do most of the heavy lifting on the backend, with smaller, lightweight applications to display and render on the platforms you deploy to. If you’re happy to launch on one platform first, then a single native app can be cheaper and might be a good way to test the market.įor full integration with all the features each platform offers, cross-platform can set limits on that, so if you want to work closely with the platform's integrations and storage features, native apps may be the way to go. If you want to launch quickly, then cross-platform will let you do that on multiple platforms more easily. When choosing between platform-specific and cross-platform, think carefully about what your app needs to do. Using a single codebase is faster and easier, but there tends to be a quality gap over dedicated solutions and you may find it harder to work with platform-specific features. React Native, Kotlin, or Flutter are all popular, but there are many other options. There are several languages and frameworks that let you build binaries for multiple platforms. Cross-platform appsĬross-platform apps are your other choice for working primarily on mobile, and they essentially have inverse pros and cons to dedicated applications. You’ll need to have a separate codebase for each platform, too.įor iOS, Swift is a great choice of language, while for Android development, Java or Kotlin are the most popular. The downside is that it will be more work to release the app for other platforms, if you choose to do that later. In general, using a platform-specific codebase will result in a faster app that integrates well with the platform’s native features and is more future-proof. If you take advantage of these, your app is likely to run better. Mobile platforms have their own development environments, which use a selection of languages and libraries. If you master these languages you’ll be better equipped to understand the frameworks that use them, so a simple application using them is often the first step toward bigger things. With many frameworks you also write the HTML and CSS directly, using templates and injecting backend data as needed. If you want to keep things straightforward, there’s nothing wrong with writing a site in plain HTML and CSS with JavaScript to help you. Web applications deliver HTML, CSS, and JavaScript directly to the browser, but typically rely on other languages or frameworks to construct them. Resource consumption, such as bandwidth, memory, and CPU time, can be more or less critical depending on how and where you deploy. Your deployment channel affects the tools and frameworks available to you, and it has an impact on what you need to prioritize. Some people prefer drinking beverages with sugar or other sweeteners. But because it is tea, it can give you many health benefits. So you may not feel that much boost after drinking. How long does it take for Brisk Iced Tea to work? So you can eat anything before and after drinking the tea with lower caffeine. But the tea, which has 11 mg caffeine, doesn’t interfere with other foods. The iced tea caffeine can vary from one to another. What foods to prevent before and after drinking the Iced Tea? But if the person is younger than that, there aren’t any suggested limits, so it would be better to limit the caffeine for people under that age. If the person is 12 to 18, the limits are up to 100 mg caffeine. The FDA suggests not to drink more than 400 mg of caffeine per adult throughout the day. How much caffeine is healthy and required for different age limits? So drinking coffee or tea at that time becomes a waste of tea or caffeine. The reason is, when you wake up early in the morning, you have the natural boost you need. The excellent time to drink caffeinated drinks, including tea, is after 9:00 AM and between 11:30 AM. What is a Good time to Drink the Iced Tea? Studies suggest that caffeine increases mental focus, alertness, endurance, and possibly even strength. Drinking 3 to 4 cans a day can be enough, but you also should make sure it has some sugar, so if you want to avoid the sugar, you should avoid drinking this iced tea. So you can drink it as much you like, but you should make sure not to overdo it. The FDA suggests drinking 400 mg of caffeine throughout the day. The Brisk Iced Tea has 11 mg caffeine which is considered low. How many Cans of Brisk Iced Tea Can you drink a day? There is 11 mg caffeine in the Brisk Iced Tea, which is low, so if you are new to caffeinated drinks, this one is suitable for you. How much Caffeine Does Brisk Iced Tea Contain? There are many good iced tea drinks like the Brisk Iced Tea, which you will enjoy the most. The iced teas not only taste good, but they have the caffeine to keep you awake so that you can do all the works that you need. When oils get cold enough in a deep freezer, they will solidify into a block of "wax"-like oil that cannot be pumped around inside an engine's lubrication system. The effects of temperature on a single-viscosity oil can be demonstrated by pouring a small amount of vegetable oil into a pot or pan and then either cooling it in a freezer or heating it on a cooking stove. Thus the 5W-30 oils were introduced, rather than the fixed and temperature limiting grades – where the thin oils became too thin when hot and the thicker oils became too thick when cold. Thus the issue of multigrade oils came into being, where with variable temperatures of, say, −10 ☌ during the cold nights and 20 ☌ during the days, a 5 weight oil would be good as the oil would be pumpable in a cold engine and as the engine came up to running temperature, and the day warmed up, the characteristics of a 30 weight oil would be ideal. However, in hot climates, where temperatures range from 30 ☌ to 45 ☌, a 50 weight oil would be necessary, so it would remain thick enough to hold up an oil film between the moving hot parts. As an example, with winter oils and cold starting the engines, and with temperature ranges from, say, −30 ☌ to 0 ☌, a 5 weight oil would be pumpable at the very low temperatures and the generally cooler engine operating temperatures. Historically, there were two different oil types recommended for usage in different weather conditions. This provides consistent engine performance within the normal working conditions. The best oils with the highest VI will remain stable and not vary much in viscosity over the temperature range. Many lubricant applications require the lubricant to perform across a wide range of conditions, for example, automotive lubricants are required to reduce friction between engine components when the engine is started from cold (relative to the engine's operating temperatures) up to 200 ☌ (392 ☏) when it is running. If the lubricant is too viscous, it will require a large amount of energy to move (as in honey) if it is too thin, the surfaces will come in contact and friction will increase. Generally, the least viscous lubricant which still forces the two moving surfaces apart to achieve " fluid bearing" conditions is desired. The viscosity of a lubricant is closely related to its ability to reduce friction in solid body contacts. The VI was originally measured on a scale from 0 to 100 however, advancements in lubrication science have led to the development of oils with much higher VIs. The higher the VI, the more stable the viscosity remains over some temperature range. The lower the VI, the more the viscosity is affected by changes in temperature. It is mostly used to characterize the viscosity-temperature behavior of lubricating oils. The viscosity index ( VI) is an arbitrary, unit-less measure of a fluid's change in viscosity relative to temperature change.
Kimura also trained in karate, believing that karate would strengthen his hands. He was promoted to 7th dan at age 30, a rank that was frozen after disputes with Kodokan over becoming a professional wrestler, refusing to return the All Japan Judo Championship flag, and issuing dan ranks while in Brazil. He won the All-Japan Judo Championships, an openweight competition, for three straight years in 1937, 1938, and 1939. Īt the height of his career, Kimura's training involved a thousand push-ups and nine hours of practice every day. Many opponents asked Kimura not to use his osoto gari. Daily randori or sparring sessions at Tokyo Police and Kodokan dōjōs resulted in numerous opponents suffering from concussions and losing consciousness. He consistently practiced the leg throw osoto gari (large outer reap) against a tree. He considered quitting judo after those losses, but through the encouragement of friends he began training again. Reportedly lost only four judo matches in his lifetime, all occurring in 1935. Kimura's remarkable success can in part be attributed to his fanatical training regimen, managed by his teacher, Tatsukuma Ushijima. Kimura (right) along with his teacher Tatsukuma Ushijima (left). In 1935, at age 18 he became the youngest ever godan (5th degree black belt) when he defeated eight consecutive opponents at Kodokan (headquarters for the worldwide judo community). He had defeated six opponents (who were all 3rd and 4th dan) in a row. Masahiko Kimura began training judo at the age of 9 and was promoted to yondan (4th dan) at the age of 15. Kimura was born on September 10, 1917, in Kumamoto, Japan. In the Japanese professional wrestling world, he is known for being one of Japan's earliest stars and the controversial match he had with Rikidōzan. In submission grappling, the reverse ude-garami arm lock is often called the "Kimura", due to his famous victory over Gracie jiu-jitsu co-founder Hélio Gracie. He won the All-Japan Judo Championships three times in a row for the first time in history and had never lost a judo match from 1936 to 1950. Masahiko Kimura ( 木村 政彦, Kimura Masahiko, Septem– April 18, 1993) was a Japanese judoka and professional wrestler who is widely considered one of the greatest judoka of all time.
